THE FACTORY IS A MYTH WITHIN THE ART WORLD AND REFERENCE WITHIN THE COUNTERCULTURE OF THE 60s IN NORTH AMERICA. FOUNDED BY ANDY WARHOL IN 1963 AND LOCATED ON THE 5TH FLOOR 0F 231 47 EAST STREET IN MANHATTAN. IT WAS THE PLACE TO BE IN THE SIXTIES IF YOU WANTED TO LIVE THE REALITY OF THE MOVEMENT IN THE FLESH. THIS CENTER OF ART, DISCO, FILM STUDIO AND BOHEMIAN SANCTUARY WAS A MEETING PLACE FOR ARTISTS SUCH AS EDIE SEDGWICW, BOB DYLAN, NICO, THE VELVET UNDERGROUND, DALÍ, PAUL MORRISSEY... IN THIS WAY, A GROUP OF CHARACTERS WAS BORN CALLED THE WARHOL SUPERSTARS, CHARACTERS WARHOL SAID HAD TO ENJOY THEIR FIFTEEN MINUTES OF FAME. THE DECORATION OF THE STUDIO WAS UNUSUAL, AND WARHOL COVERED ALL THE WALLS WITH SILVER PAINT, TIN FOIL AND BROKEN MIRRORS. TRYING TO PROJECT THE MESSAGE: “THE WORLD IS IN DECLINE AND THE PROTO-GLAM OF THE SIXTIES TOO”.
